Types of Irrigation
Hydroponics offers different ways to irrigate your plants.
One method called passive irrigation uses porous material such as gravel and
vermiculite, ensuring that air trapped inside the spaces nourishes the roots.
Another type called top irrigation system mainly involves supplying a nutrient
solution to the medium surface instead of underneath the plant. For such a
system, you need components such as a timer, pump, and a drip irrigation system.
In the ebb-and-flow irrigation method, plants grow in a
tray just above the nutrient reservoir. Pumps automatically deliver nutrients
from the reservoir to the tray using a hose. Frequent draining of the tray is
also done so that water goes back into the nutrient reservoir.
Water Purification and Sterilization
Invest in a good water purification system to remove
chlorine, dust, silt, and chemicals. A number of commercial products are
available that are specially designed for hydroponic needs. Hydro-Logic, for

sterilization system to prevent harmful pathogens from attacking your tender
plants.
