| Hormones, Additives & Stimulants
Description |
| |
Plants, unlike animals, lack glands to secrete hormones and other vital
substances that are necessary for growth. Only certain cells in the plant's body
produce these vital substances. These substances affect the plant's time of
flowering, seed growth, leaf formation, longevity, and fruit development and
ripening. Plants use these essential nutrients only at specific times of their
growth.
At times, it becomes necessary to stimulate their growth by externally adding
hormones, vitamins, and other nutrients. Many of these external products work as
growth enhancers, and are used to reduce harvest time, increase yield, or hasten
blooming. Some additives help to remove excess nutrient salt, which can
otherwise be toxic for the plant. Hormones and stimulants may also help to boost
the plant's immunity and increase the lifespan.
